Here are some of the (unsolicited) email comments I've gotten from Render-Boy users...
Hi there. I just registered Renderboy (with my home e-mail address "michael@xxx.xxx")
after experimenting with it for a few weeks. Thanks for providing
such a nice affordable program for me to play with... it turns my new iMac
into a miniature 3D modeling machine.

What a terrific job you have done with Render Boy! I have been involved
with various levels of CAD for several years and in that time have not
encountered so much for such a small fee. It is a wonderful program and
has, within just two days become indispensible. I mastered it within a
day, and at the end of two, had completed a job for a friend in the fiber
optics business (see attachment... embellishments
via Photoshop). I can't wait to see what you add... a torus tool? Or a
"tubing" tool perhaps? Many thanks for a great program!

I just registered Renderboy, and I must say that I am very impressed with your program! I am planning to produce a Shareware game with extensive 3-D graphics, and I have chosen your program as a result of it's many strengths. It supports older hardware, which I find very valuable, be it that I am a Junior high school student at a boarding school and my computer systems are somewhat dated. It has a strong rendering engine that produces beautiful 24-bit graphics relatively efficiently.
Even if I did have the money to buy a nice shiny new G3 workstation, would I really have the hundreds of dollars to shell out for a modeling/rendering application? In short, no. Thank you for producing a world class application that we can all afford.
Our computer coordinator at my school is integrating very basic 3-D graphics into his classes, and I urged him to tryout Renderboy, which he was impressed with. You may be getting a site license payment from Canterbury School next September.
I wish you the best with future developments, and again thank you for
a great program.

Using RB2.0 is great and I spend much time learning the skills of 3D.
I found RB2.0 on a CDRom sold with the french Mac magazine Univers-Mac,
for once there was something interesting such as RB.

I've just downloaded version 1.2 of Renderboy and am very impressed
by the user interface. I'm not a 3D artist - I'm a programmer and it's
a relief finding a 3D program that feels as intuitive as using a 2D paint
package.

I just wanted to congratulate for creating such a fantastic software.
My friends at work (PC users) were amazed of a program for 3D effects that
only takes some 3MB of space, not to mention RAM requirements.

Hi, i'm from Adelaide Australia and I would just like to let you know
that Render-Boy 1.2 is INCONCIEVABLY BRILLIANT! I can't wait for v2.0, keep
working hard. It's good to see fellow Mac admirers doing their stuff! Bye!

I recently downloaded a copy of your Render-Boy program and I must say
that it's great. It's amazing what can be done with it, and how simple
it is.

I found the website, and downloaded your program. I played around with it for an hour or two last night, and I must say I am impressed. It is a quite intuitive program, and I was drawing simple items (a dart, for one) and rendering them, without having to reference the documentation. There were a few things that bothered me, but once I delve into the documents, I am sure they will become clear. I particularly liked the window featuring relected/refracted/diffused controls--a very simple diagram but it explains the principle and gave me a better idea of what numbers to input.
I am definitely not a 3D guru, but this program seems to be one of the better shareware (maybe even commercial) programs I have seen. Very nice. Looking forward to the next version.
Needless to say, I will be registering the program. I plan on getting
some money today to send to you (hopefully before our postal system goes
on strike).

Just a note to let you know how Render-Boy saved the day at work today.
Well, it helped anyway. I work at a weekly newspaper (The Western Producer,
http://www.producer.com),
and we were working on a supplement and needed a quarter page house ad
to fill a spot left by an ad that didn't show up. So, I created an ad using
the alarm clock I had created in Render-Boy. Did a larger render, shrunk
it down in PhotoShop to get the right print resolution, changed it to greyscale,
brought it into Quark, added some copy, and presto--instant
house promotional ad. Actually, it wasn't all that instant, it was
an idea I had thought about earlier, but it all worked quite neat.

Still plugging away with Render-Boy, and still enjoying it. Have used it a few times at work in the paper, and thought I would send one your way for your information/interest. Used Render-Boy to draw a combine, rendered it, brought the PICT file into Adobe Streamline, and converted it into a stark black and white illustration. Voila! Instant ad graphic. Worked good, and a bit different look. Very neat.
Have used Render-Boy this way -- do the typical render, then go in and
turn off shadows and change the background to white with no gradation.
The re-render gives you a black object on a white background. I then use
this b+w image in Photoshop as an instant 'mask', allowing me to quickly
add in a new background, or whatever. Works quite neat, and thought I should
share it just in case other people may be interested.

Hi, Paul! I am really amazed by Render-Boy!
It has the best quality/price ratio I've ever seen, really! and one of the most powerful Shareware I've ever met. The quality of the renderings is outstanding, and the negative objects add lots of possibilities. Also, the manual is very well written.
If you added one or two enhancements, it might well compete with commercial $1000 applications. I'd like to give you some ideas for it; use those that you like (and let me know if you do: I'll be proud for having helped a great developer!).
Cheers from Sunny Spain!

I read about your product on the Wednesday MacWay Evangelist posting and downloaded a copy. What a great program!!
I forwarded a blurb to my son who earns a nice living doing web design
work and expect him to be as impressed with Renderboy as I am. I also sent
a reference to a friend who runs a networking and web page shop in Michigan
who was elated with your program. He said he would be happy about my sending
you his response. I thought you might like to know how he intends to use
it and how much he appreciated getting a copy.

Your renderBoy is an awe-inspiring program, and I write this to congratulate
you on it and thank you for it. The Registration Fee is going to you via
postal services. Thanks!

I love Renderboy! It is the greatest use of time since Marathon! I have
spent many a computing hour rendering things on my archaic 68K mac, but
it still works phenomenally well! I have attached two of what I consider
my best renders up until now. I am in the process of figuring out light
sorces and the such, it goes well. Keep up the great work.

Well, I've been using the 68k FPU Renderboy beta for a few days ago
and I have to begin by saying that I am really impressed! Its about time
somebody made a program withg such power and versatility and made it shareware
instead of charging an unreasonable fortune for it. Thankyou for producing
such a wonderour rendering program - keep up the good work :-)
--
David - (Australia)
First, I want to thank you a lot for making a 3D software who works
on a 68040 without a FPU. I still cant beleive how much your shareware
work good with only 837K of size...Unbelievable!!!

I'm Rob, an (not-for-long) unregistered user of Render-Boy. I have sent
you a copy of something that I whipped up in about fifteen minutes. I have
many such projects, and am consistently amazed at the power of the program.
It is commercial-quality, and the only thing I can think of that could
make it better is a sculptor or some other way of making more complex shapes
and (hopefully) animations.
