Do you still have questions about Render-Boy?

If so, please review the list of common questions below. If you are not able to find your answer here or elsewhere on my web site, feel free to drop me an email.

Email me at Renderboy@kagi.com

Q: What about support for Mac OS X.  Is it coming?
A: The current version of Render-Boy works fine running in "Classic" mode on Mac OS X. A Mac OS X native version of Render-Boy is currently planned in the next update,  v2.4.0.

Q: Why is there a white "X" across my rendered images?
A: Unregistered copies of Render-Boy are fully functional, but a white "X" appears on all rendered images. This output marker does not limit your ability to fully evaluate the software. Registering the software gets rid of the X and all other shareware reminders.

Q: I've rendered a cool picture. Will you put it on your web site in the image gallery?
A: That depends. I have a limited amount of space on my web server, so I can't post every image I'd like to. However, I always appreciate receiving Render-Boy images as email attachments, but please keep them to 100K or less. Or if your image is already on the web, please just send me the URL. I will let you know if I plan to put the picture in the gallery.

Q: Is there a version of Render-Boy for computers running Microsoft Windows? Will there be?
A: There is no Windows version of Render-Boy yet. Currently the Mac version takes all my free time.

Q: Does Render-Boy import/export  geometry with other Mac design software?
A: Starting with version 2.3.0, import of DXF surface and solid models is supported.

Q: Can I save Render-Boy images in any formats other than PICT?
A: Not at this time, but several third party graphics apps can convert them for you.

Q: Can I put Render-Boy on the CD-ROM disk we are producing and distributing?
A: Please ask me first. If we agree that you are just distributing the software and not a shareware license (registration code) to use the software, I will nearly always say yes.

Q: Does Render-Boy only support primitive shapes, or can I rotate or extrude a profile to create geometry?
A: In addition to primitive shapes, Render-Boy now supports objects imported from DXF files. Using Meshwork you can generate Render-Boy compatible DXF files by extruding or rotating profiles, as well as several other techniques.

Q: Why does Render-Boy crash my Mac?
A: If you run the FPU version of Render-Boy on a PowerMac or on a 68K Mac with no floating point unit, it will crash. This is the downside of making the FPU version as fast as possible. Render-Boy has also shown incompatibilities with the After Dark screen saver. Boot with extensions disabled (hold down the shift key while booting) to verify whether this is the cause. If you encounter any other crash causes, please send me an email.

Q: Do you create any other Mac shareware besides Render-Boy?
A: No. Render-Boy takes all my available time.

Q: Will you send me a free registration code in trade for <whatever>? How about sending me one so I can "review" Render-Boy?
A: No.

Q: Is it OK to use Render-Boy to create artwork/images for publication?
A: Sure. All designs and images you create with Render-Boy are your intellectual property.

Q: Are my design files and registration code transferable between the 68K and PowerPC versions of Render-Boy?
A: Yes, they will work fine with either version, as well as all future versions.
